Alba Salix

“If I didn’t have this dope coming to me every day for his nonexistent problems, I could have so much time back…”

Overworked and cynical, Alba is head of the House of Healing, where she tends to the Royal Family as well as a host of other patients.

Trivia: Salix alba is the scientific name for white willow, whose bark contains salicylic acid, from which aspirin was originally derived.

Magnus of Hezelford

“I see. The kingdom’s health care system is founded on slave labour.”

Alba’s apprentice is a teenage ex-monk, self-styled martial artist, and would-be surgeon.

Holly

“You should always listen to the birds and animals. They’re your friends!”

Chief herbalist and general busybody at the House of Healing, Holly wants more than anything to be a good fairy — she’s just not very good at it.

King Gunther

“Look, I don’t have time to read every word in every document I sign.”

The befuddled King Gunther, son of Lothar II, rules the tiny kingdom of Farloria.

Queen Parabel

Alba’s sister, and the original drama queen.

Helbard Krankel

“With respect, Majesty, it is a consequence of allowing a self-taught hedge witch to minister to the health of yourself and the kingdom at large.”

The pompous, obsequious, and nefarious Sorceror General, who may or may not be planning to take over the kingdom.
